Like Dien Bien Phu, the American military base of Khe Sanh should have been impregnable. More than 10 000 soldiers were posted here when it fell in March 1968. This bleak place, with its blood-red earth, still bears scars from the fierce battle which took place here. A small museum exhibits a map of the region and information on the battle, as well as some old photos and various items found on the site.
