This modern art centre in a magnificent location on the banks of Oslo Fjord was opened in 1968 to house 300 works donated by the figure skater Sonja Henie (1912-1969) and her ship-owner husband. The holding has since expanded and is Norway's largest collection of international modern art. The major movements of the 20C are well represented: Cubism (Braque, Juan Gris, Picasso), Surrealism (Miró, Ernst), Cobra Group (Jorn and Appel) and Abstract art.
