Grote Oost
The Green Guide
The Michelin Guide's review
In the 17C and 18C, Grote Oost was the town's most prominent street along with the Grote Noord. It was here that eminent citizens took up residence in impressive houses which are deliberately leaning and boast imposing façades with sculpted balustrades in Rococo style. At n° 43, the Foreest house (Foreestenhuis, 1724), bears the name of Nanning van Foorest, one of the town's most illustrious mayors. The elegant Louis XIV façade has a balcony supported by atlantes.
