The Michelin Guide's review
The town's central square is overlooked by the Westfries Museum and the public weigh house. It owes its name to the blood which frequently flowed here during public executions (rode steen = red stone). At its centre, note the 19C statue of Hoorn's most famous son, Jan Pieterszoon Coen (1587-1629), who was central to the Dutch East Indies colonial empire (Indonesia).
