The Michelin Guide's review
Built in 1922, the 1,400-seat hall, dubbed the "Pride of the Pacific," has been a landmark venue in downtown Honolulu for more than eight decades. The theater reigned as a grand movie palace from the 1930s to 50s. By the 1980s, however, the venue sat derelict and decaying until a group of citizens stepped in to save it. Hawaii Theatre reopened in 1996 after a six-year restoration, returned to its former Beaux-Arts glory, and its acoustics kicked-up with modern technology and design.
