The Michelin Guide's review
The Buddhist nuns and monks living at Po Lin monastery enjoyed a peaceful existence until 1970, when the monastery opened its doors to visitors. The site has been a place of pilgrimage ever since and crowds of locals come here to worship one of the largest seated Buddhas in China. The statue is 34m high and is surrounded by six bronze statues of the Immortals. This beautiful, noble statue provides an excellent introduction to the spiritual journey of the Buddha, whose story is told here in four frescoes.
