The Michelin Guide's review
Built around 980 with the typical layout of Viking forts, Fyrkat was protected by a round wall 120m in diameter. Two perpendicular alleys leading to the main gates and facing the cardinal points drew the limits of four zones where four wooden buildings, each with a capacity of 50 people, stood (oak replica outside). Finds from local digs are exhibited in the Hobro Museum, in a picturesque old building. The Vikingecenter is in the valley and has nine replica houses showing what life was like for Viking farmers.
