The Michelin Guide's review
Only the Saxon crypt remains of the original abbey (674), built by St Wilfrid with the stones from the old Roman settlement of Corbridge. The fine, Early English Gothic chancel and imposing transept belong to the later church (1180-1250). In the right arm of the transept, the stone Night Stair (12C) led up to the canons' dormitory. The Leschman chantry chapel (1491) is adorned with curious sculptures and finely worked wood panelling.
