The Michelin Guide's review
The cathedral (12C-14C) was largely financed by donations from pilgrims who came here to visit the tomb of St Thomas Cantilupe (canonised in 1320). His tomb, without the effigy, stands in the left arm of the transept, where you can admire Stanbury Chapel, which is representative of the Perpendicular Gothic style. The chained library contains 1 400 books and more than 200 manuscripts dating from the 8C-15C. The Mappa Mundi is a map of the known world created by a local monk in the 13C.
