The Michelin Guide's review
This grand stone house with its Neogothic portico stands on a hill overlooking Hamilton Bay. The residence was completed in 1835 by Sir Allan Napier MacNab, soldier, lawyer, politician and member of the Family Compact. From 1854 to 1856 MacNab served as prime minister of United Canada. The visit of the servants' quarters in the castle basement is particularly interesting. The garden, also home to a small military museum, commands a fine view of Hamilton and its bay.
