The Michelin Guide's review
Located at Sandwich Point, this coastal fort was constructed in 1793, reinforced in 1794 by Prince Edward, and flanked by a Martello tower in 1798 to communicate by signals with the citadel. During World War II, the redoubt became the centre for coordinating the defence of the harbour and city against a possible German offensive. On the southern side, a command post offers fine views of the harbour on a clear day.
