The Michelin Guide's review
A symbol of the city, Mt Hakodate reaches a height of 334m and extends majestically into the Tsugaru Strait. Its black basalt rock forms high cliffs covered in rich vegetation. While several well-appointed walking trails run across it, providing visitors with fine views, a cable car sweeps you to the summit of the mountain in a few minutes; from this vantage point you can enjoy an extraordinary panoramic view of the city, by day or by night. Be aware that the site is popular with tourists.
