The Michelin Guide's review
The former public hall of Hakodate, a very fine wooden building built in 1910 after the fire of 1907 that devastated the town, dominates the bay with its balconies, columns and dormer windows, in pastel yellow and blue tones. The façade has three porches on the ground floor and a fine loggia on the first floor. Inside, where the scent of wax-polished wood fills the air, you will visit a series of halls furnished in the style of the early 20C; from the balcony, there is a superb view over the bay and the town.
