Built by the Maitland family in the 14C, this castle had a number of owners before passing into the hands of the Duke of Hamilton. Inside, the many portraits take you back to another era in the story of this house. Note the porcelain room (18C-20C heraldic examples), the Stuart Room with its tortoiseshell-inlaid desk, and the Tower Room with Mary, Queen of Scots' death mask and a jewel box given to her as an engagement gift by Francis II of France.
