Church Street leads to the banks of the river where the very solid 16C Nungate Bridge stands, with its crown cut-waters, offers a fine view upstream towards St Mary's Church. The other bank was once occupied by a Cistercian abbey that the church was named after. You can also see Lady Kitty's Garden, which was once an archers' training ground.
