The Michelin Guide's review
Started in 1390 in the Gothic style, this cathedral was not finished until in 1540. This granite building is crowned with pinnacles and trefoil which confer a certain ressemblance to Batalha Monastery. There is an admirable Renaissance retable, built in Ança stone, from the 16C but gilded in the 18C, credited to Jean de Rouen. There is also a stairway, built around a wreathed column, which takes you to the roof of the cathedral, from where you have an unrestricted view over the town and Serra da Estrela.
