The Michelin Guide's review
Dotted with hundreds of small islands, Moosehead Lake, the largest lake in New England (300km2), is located in northern Maine, in a region of forests that extends to the Canadian border. Its 558km of shoreline is carved by countless bays and creeks, the general profile of which evokes the head of a moose, hence its name. To the south of the lake, Greenville is the starting point for elk hunting, fishing and canoeing expeditions, which are very popular here.
