The Michelin Guide's review
This Lombard Gothic-inspired church founded in 1399 is a major site devoted to the worship of the Virgin Mary. In front of the church is a Renaissance loggia that contains cannon balls from the battle of Pavia (1525), however it is the interior that most intrigues the visitor. It houses a stunning collection of 16C and 17C ex-votos, in the shape of life-size statues made of wood, wax, plaster and papier-maché. In another register, the stuffed crocodile is also very eye-catching.
