It's impossible not to make a stop at this immense, vertiginous canyon as it comes into view behind a curtain of trees. The cliffs and rocky landscapes which change colour with the passing clouds and the stunning striated layers of rock all add to the majesty of the Grand Canyon, which provides an ever-changing spectacle. This 1 904sq-mi national park extends from Lees Ferry to Lake Mead, although only a small section of the park is easily accessible by land.
