The Michelin Guide's review
This gate has no defensive role, unlike the Puerta de la Justicia; rather, it marks the access to the medina. Built in the 14C, its name comes from the Christian era: from 1554 it was where merchants came to unload the wine for consumption by the Alhambra's inhabitants. As it was royal territory, wine was not taxed here, and the people of Granada often came to stock up.
