The Michelin Guide's review
The Landmannalaugar mountains, part of Fjallabak Nature Reserve, have a high concentration of varied volcanic effects, which has resulted in the wealth of landscapes. Between vast barren expanses, where discreet vegetation grows, you can hike among damp prairies and phosphorescent moss. The rhyolite mountains, for which the site is best known, form a kaleidoscope of black, brown, pink, white, red, blue, bronze-green and especially a very particular shade of fawn.
