  The Michelin Guide's review
The imposing ruins of Aulne Abbey stand at the bottom of the valley of the Sambre. The abbey was founded by St Landelin in the 7C and became home to a community of Cistercians in 1147. The 16C Gothic church with a Classical façade (1728) has retained its magnificent chancel and transept. As you take the path on the right that led to the monks' quarters and infirmary, you get a fine overview of the apse and transept.
