Miners’Museum
The Green Guide
The Michelin Guide's review
Overlooking the sea from its 6ha/15 acre site, this low-lying, geometric museum charts the history of coal, spanning geology, mining and tools. Retired miners conduct mine tours down galleries and tunnels beneath sea level, some of which are very low; in front of the coal face, they explain the different mining techniques, interspersing commentary with tales from personal experience. A miners' village has been reconstructed near the museum.
