Giethoorn Farmsteads

 Michelin Guide
 Civil and military monument
  The Michelin Guide's review
The farms, built in the style of a covered market, are remarkable for their dome-shaped thatched roofs. To reconcile the need to enlarge the farms (both the amount of land reclaimed from the water and the harvests continue to increase) with the meager quantity of land, the farms become higher and slightly overhang the simple dwelling house. This difference in level has given rise to the name "camel back." Because all transport is done by water, the farms do not have gates.
