The presence of Gesaltza-Añana's open-air saltworks can be traced back to the 10C. The river water gathers salt as it flows as far as the Añana Valley, where it was distributed to "farms" via channels. The saltworks area comprises a series of small, terraced platforms on piles. The salt was dried there from April. During your time here, you will get an empirical insight into the history and evolution of salt.
