The Michelin Guide's review
Built in 1396 to house the remains of the saint, brought back from Rome in 1374, the church had a peculiar squat tower added in the 17C. Totally destroyed during the war, St Bridget's was rebuilt in the early 1970s and its very contemporary decoration includes a monumental amber altar. The church became a sanctuary for the Solidarity movement during the strikes of the 1980s, after striking workers took refuge here.
