The Michelin Guide's review
The Achilleion, a luxurious neo-Classical villa, was built from 1889 to 1891 in the Pompeii style for the Empress Sissi. On one side of the vestibule, the ceiling of which is covered with a fresco by Italian painter Galopi, visitors can see the dining room with blue walls strewn with stucco cherubs; on the other side, the salons full of mementoes of the royal families. But don't miss the portrait of Sissi, by Winterhalter. The gardens, dotted with statues, offer a fine view over the countryside and the lagoon.
