The Michelin Guide's review
Château de Gaillon, remodelled by Louis XII on his return from Italy, heralded the Renaissance movement in Normandy. Dismantled during the Revolution and then used as a prison, the castle is now being restored, and parts can be visited. The entrance pavilion still boasts its handsome Renaissance decor. After the military-looking main courtyard, you reach the chapel adorned in 16C painted scenes. The gallery over the Val commands a panoramic view of the Seine valley.
