The Michelin Guide's review
In 1077, the archbishops of Salzburg began building this castle that stands proudly on a hilltop overlooking the Old Town. Only a few wall sections remains of the once-magnificent palace. An imposing, 30m-high, Romanesque keep now houses the municipal museum, the Stadtmuseum. The chapel still retains Romanesque frescoes. Each summer, an open-air theatre festival is held in the inner courtyard.
