The Michelin Guide's review
The two parts of the San Juan Island National Historical Park ensure the conservation of the coastline here, reminding visitors of the joint occupation of the island by British and American soldiers between 1859 and 1872, following the "Pig War", which ultimately did not break out. This pseudo-conflict only ended in 1872, when Wilhelm I of Germany, who had been chosen as arbitrator, decided to give the United States control of the islands.
