The Michelin Guide's review
In 1774, Eise Eisinga, a wool comber who was fascinated by astronomy, embarked upon the construction (completed in 1781) of an ingenious device that made the movement of the stars appear on the ceiling of his living room. Today, this magnificent planetarium, one of the oldest in the world, is still operating. Other treasures here include Eisinga's manuscripts and a collection of 18C-19C astronomical instruments.
