The Michelin Guide's review
Finished in Paris in 1887 according to plans by Pierre-Henri Picq, then despatched and reassembled in Fort-de-France in 1893, Schoelcher Library features an incredible range of inspirations from the metallic Eiffel structure and Egyptian-Byzantine to Art Nouveau. The building, intended to house 10 000 works donated to the town by Schoelcher in 1883, now houses some 300 000 volumes, of which one-third are visible.
