The Abbey of Fontevraud is one of the most important monastic sites in Europe. Don't miss the immense 12C church and the Plantagenet tombs, the 16C wall paintings in the chapter house of the Ste-Marie cloister, St Benoît's Chapel (12C) and the amazing Romanesque kitchen. Since 1975, the abbey has been a residential centre for the creative arts, where the Centre de l'Ouest organises concerts and exhibitions. A Modern Art Museum is planned to be established here in 2020.
