The Michelin Guide's review
Surrounded by a large moat, this fortress dominating the centre of Fontanellato was once the residence of the powerful Counts of Sanvitale, who owned the property until 1948. Now a museum, the fortress offers visitors a chance to admire its fine furnishings, 16C-18C decor, and painted ceilings. The highlight of the visit is the Diana and Actaeon Hall, which is adorned with superb frescoes and paintings.
