The Michelin Guide's review
Francesco Petrarca, or Petrarch (1304-74), retreated to Fontaine after he was spurned by his beloved Laura. His loss was literature's gain, as he went on to write Canzoniere, the first great lyric poem. In the Musée-Bibliothèque Pétrarque, drawings and engravings depict the thwarted love of poet and his beloved. Remarkable selection of writings by René Char illustrated by Miro, Braque and Giacometti.
