The Michelin Guide's review
This fortified monastery was built by the priest Alvaro Gonçalves Pereira, father of Nuno Álvares Pereira who defeated the Castilians at Aljubarrota. It is a compact and fortified complex, with crenellations running along its high walls, and has been remarkably restored. It now houses a pousada. The church allies simple lines and an impressively tall nave, where contemporary art exhibitions are held. The architecture of the cloister is robust but elegant, thanks to its the Late Gothic vaults.
