The Michelin Guide's review
This vast desert plain is dotted with the ruins of Sinagua villages dating from the 12C, once inhabited by 3 000 people. The Wukoki Pueblo, a fortress of red stone, stands on a rocky overhang, while the Wupatki Pueblo Trail, the largest village, was once home to over a hundred rooms. Two trails allow visitors to climb the Big Doney Crater and the Little Doney Crater, which offer extensive views of the San Francisco Peaks, the Painted Desert and the Wupatki Basin.
