The Michelin Guide's review
Begun in 1279, Santa Maria Novella church, built by the Dominicans, was only completed in 1360. The façade, with its green and white marble geometric motifs, dates from the middle of the 14C. Leon Battista Alberti took over work on the church in 1458 and succeeded in harmoniously blending its Gothic and Renaissance architectural features. Inside the church, the famous fresco of The Trinity by Masaccio is an important work in the history of painting.
