It was Cosimo I who, in the 16C, commissioned the building of the loggia of the New Market, recognisable by its elegant Renaissance arcades, which today houses a market selling handicrafts. To the side of the building facing towards the Arno stands the fountain nicknamed Il Porcellino, a bronze boar sculpted in the early 17C by Pietro Tacca.
