The Michelin Guide's review
This Franciscan church was begun in 1295 based on the designs of Arnolfo di Cambio, but the neo-Gothic façade dates from the 19C. The inside is composed of the chancel and ten elegant painted chapels. Note the Bardi Chapel, decorated with frescoes depicting scenes from the Life of St Francis, by Giotto, the Bardi di Mangona Chapel, which has a wooden crucifix by Donatello. The exquisite Pazzi Chapel is testament to the architectural genius of Brunelleschi.
