The Michelin Guide's review
Standing 82m high, Giotto's slender bell tower illustrates the originality of the Florentine Gothic style and the significance given to horizontal lines and geometric decoration. While the plans and decorative scheme were Giotto's work, the building was not completed until the late 14C, long after the architect's death in 1337. The upper platform (414 steps) offers a fine view of the cathedral and the city of Florence.
