The Michelin Guide's review
This neo-Classical basilica stands at one end of the huge esplanade, which can hold more than 300 000 pilgrims. Dominated by a 65m-high tower, it has circular arched peristyles on either side. Inside are the tombs of Francisco, who died in 1919, Jacinta, who died in 1920, and Lucia, who died in 2005, the three protagonists to whom the Virgin Mary appeared in 1917.
