The Michelin Guide's review
Faro Cathedral was built in 1251 on the site of a former mosque and rebuilt in the 18C. All that remains of the original church is the imposing portico tower at the entrance. The sanctuary is a mixture of Gothic, Baroque, Rococo and Renaissance styles and even contains a red and gold organ with Chinese motifs dating from the 18C. On the first floor, a museum of sacred art displays vestments. Finally, from the top of its medieval tower, there are beautiful views of the town and coast.
