La Tourette Convent
The Green Guide
The Michelin Guide's review
Located on the hillside, the Dominican Ste-Marie-de-la-Tourette Convent was designed by Le Corbusier and built between 1956 and 1959. It is a remarkable example of modern architecture applied to religious life. The rough concrete buildings form a quadrilateral, sealed to the north by a minimalist church that is lit from the sides by narrow horizontal slits. The convent is home to a cultural centre and provides accommodation for retired laypeople.
