Housed in an intricate brick building, this museum was built in 1933 to house a collection of 3 700 works of oriental art. Its speciality remains art from Asia, particularly from Japan and Korea, both classical and modern. The Schnitzer also contains one of the largest collections of works by the expressionist painter Morris Graves, who was from the northwest, as well as some of his contemporaries.
