The Michelin Guide's review
The highest paved highway in North America climbs rapidly from coniferous and aspen forests to treeless tundra at 3 713m/12 179ft, offering outstanding mountain views along its route, in particular from Many Parks Curve and Forest Canyon Overlook. The short and accessible Tundra Trail discovery path at Rock Cut is dotted with information boards on local geology, flora and fauna. Given the altitude, this can be challenging for those visitors unaccustomed to walking at high altitude.
