The Michelin Guide's review
The Coconut Coast, rich in white sandy beaches, lined with coconut trees and turquoise water, is proud of its tropical paradise image. In 1980, the Club Med set the ball rolling into what has become an immense complex of tourist infrastructures of varying architecture. Punta Cana is now home to low-cost all-inclusive establishments and to lavish hotels catering to an international jet-set. So, to get away from the tourist masses and gain an insight into the local way of life, head for the fishing village of Cortecito or the beaches of Cabo Engaño and Juanillo.
