The Michelin Guide's review
The Parque Nacional Histórico y Arqueológico La Isabela is located on the site of the first Spanish settlement in the New World and named after the Spanish queen who ruled at the time. The city was divided into two distinct zones: a wooden residential area of which nothing remains today and a military zone, El Castillo, of which a few Taíno and Spanish vestiges remain. While this archaeological site is far from extensive, it does illustrate a turning point of the history of the Dominican Republic.
