  The Michelin Guide's review
Eisenstadt has evidence of a Jewish community dating back to 1296. In 1671, when Emperor Leopold I expelled them from Vienna, many Jews sought refuge here, in the Unterberg district, which is in a good state of preservation. This former ghetto, where the bronze chains used to isolate it on the Sabbath are still to be seen, was famous for its rabbinical college.
