The Michelin Guide's review
A steep path leads up to the fortified walls of this castle. A stroll round the old ramparts affords splendid points of view of the town. On your way, you will see the tomb of Gárdonyi Géza, author of a school manual which relates the story of the Turkish occupation of Eger in the 16C. Take the time to visit the basement and pillboxes dug under the foundations of the former cathedral of Saint John. Located in the former Episcopal palace, a museum devoted to the history of the site and an art gallery are well worth the detour.
